Reporting to a Supervisor, this position serves as a System Administrator responsible for the installation, configuration, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise systems and services. A significant portion of this role focuses on supporting and administering the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment, including its associated software, security configurations, and operations. The position contributes to VDI-related projects and ongoing system improvements, while also supporting other assigned systems as needed.
Responsibilities include ensuring system stability, performance, and security in alignment with established standards and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Administers, supports, and maintains the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment and related systems.
- Assists with the execution of VDI-related projects, including task implementation, progress tracking, and testing to verify completion.
- Participates in cross-training efforts related to back-end VDI non-administrative processes.
- Supports the implementation and maintenance of persistent desktop solutions.
- Interacts with external vendors as needed to support VDI-related technologies.
- Provides technical support guidance, and assists in developing and maintaining documentation for processes, procedures, and user/IT instructions.
- Works collaboratively with IT staff to configure, implement, and maintain software components and technical configurations supporting VDI and other assigned systems and services, with a focus on platform stability and security.
- Administers VDI back-end configurations including security settings, group policies, multifactor authentication, and user pools.
- Implements and maintains a least-privilege environment through security elevation rules based on hash, publisher, path, or executable.
- Creates and manages virtual desktops within VMware environments and performs daily operations related to VDI, including application delivery using VMware App Volumes and persistence management using Dynamic Environment Manager.
- Schedules and performs maintenance and upgrades to VDI-related systems and supporting software to ensure system performance, availability, and security.
- Monitors system uptime, performance, resource utilization, and security posture to ensure operational requirements are met.
- Participates in technical research, training, and professional development to support continuous improvement of VDI and related systems.
- Provides technical assistance and clear communication to IT staff, management, and end users as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Networking, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience administering enterprise VDI environments within the last eight (8) years; or Bachelor's degree in any field and four (4) years of experience administering enterprise VDI environments within the last eight (8) years; or Associate's degree in any field and six (6) years of experience administering enterprise VDI environments within the last eight (8) years.
(COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) - Experience administering and supporting enterprise Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments, including virtual desktop provisioning, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Experience administering Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Server operating systems, multifactor authentication, and related enterprise infrastructure services.
- Experience monitoring system performance, availability, capacity, and security, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
