Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and integrity of production equipment and facility systems through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and continuous improvement activities. This role performs mechanical and electrical maintenance on manufacturing equipment, diagnoses equipment failures, supports production operations, and contributes to reducing downtime. The position requires strong technical knowledge of industrial machinery, electrical systems, PLC-controlled equipment, and safety procedures within a manufacturing environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance activities on production machinery and facility support equipment to maximize equipment reliability and minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control system issues to identify root causes and implement effective repairs.
  • Inspect, operate, test, and evaluate machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions and verify repair effectiveness.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement of mechanical and electrical components on production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and associated electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain and repair motors, instrumentation, electrical distribution systems, and feed control systems.
  • Support equipment changeovers, line startups, and production troubleshooting activities.
  • Complete assigned work orders accurately and within established time frames.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records, repair logs, and documentation using maintenance management software and work order systems.
  • Identify required replacement parts and assist with inventory management and reorder processes.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and operations teams to resolve equipment-related issues.
  • Ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently while maintaining product quality standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), OSHA requirements, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety standards, and company policies.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and recommend process, equipment, and operational enhancements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or trade school education preferred.
  • Experience performing industrial mechanical and electrical maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation systems.
  • Knowledge of motors, instrumentation, electrical distribution systems, and production equipment.
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance programs and maintenance best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and work order software.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout procedures, OSHA regulations, GMP requirements, and food safety standards.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certificate, vocational training, apprenticeship, or associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred.

Work Experience

  • Experience performing preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance in a manufacturing, food production, industrial, or processing environment preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment and automated production systems preferred.
  • Experience working with motors, instrumentation, conveyors, production machinery, and facility support equipment preferred.
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement and equipment reliability initiatives preferred.
