SHIFT TIME: 6:30 am to 3:00 pm
LOCATION: Floater position (all buildings)
Salary: $22.71 per hour for first 90 working days; $22.96 thereafter after probation.
Benefits: School‑sponsored medical, dental, and vision after 90 days. One week of paid vacation after one year.
Job DescriptionCustodial Maintenance responsible for maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment in the West Jefferson Hills School District. Duties include cleaning, janitorial services, minor repairs, operating mechanical systems, inventory management, and ensuring a safe, clean environment for students, staff, and the community.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Two years of custodial and maintenance experience (preferred).
- Experience with HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical (preferred).
- Ability to understand and perform oral and written instructions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment to perform modern cleaning techniques.
- Valid PA driver’s license with appropriate endorsements/class; ability to drive district vehicles.
- Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and ability to read blueprints and drawings.
- Ability to be flexible and perform other tasks as assigned.
- Knowledge of applicable safety rules, practices, and procedures.
- Models and exemplifies the district’s core values.
- Receives and processes work orders.
- Coordinates with other custodians for proper use of materials and equipment.
- Responds to safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately and takes appropriate action.
- Inspects, cleans, and operates heating, ventilation, electrical, and security systems as instructed.
- Performs carpentry duties for new construction, remodels, fabrication, and repairs/replacements.
- Maintains boiler room, including draining, clearing, lubricating, and cleaning boilers and flues.
- Performs scheduled preventative maintenance of roofs, motors, exit/emergency lighting, generators, batteries, and security systems.
- Performs interior and exterior painting, pressure washing, chemical paint removal, sandblasting, sanding, brush painting, roller painting, and power spray painting.
- Performs minor plumbing repairs and maintenance for restroom fixtures and drinking fountains.
- Performs hardware repairs and installations.
- Operates hand and power tools, trucks, dump trucks, box trucks, and may tow district trailers.
- Safely works from ladders, scaffolding, and riggings.
- Maintains tools and equipment in good operating condition.
- Responds to emergency calls to troubleshoot and make building repairs.
- Performs custodial duties as needed.
- Maintains and requests supplies and equipment; reports malfunctions to the facilities manager.
- Maintains building security by securing locks and reporting safety hazards; familiar with security alarm system.
- Sets up, takes down, arranges tables and chairs, and welcomes visitors as needed.
- Performs miscellaneous work such as washing windows, changing light bulbs and ballasts, servicing, and cleaning equipment.
- Performs outdoor duties such as plowing, salting, shoveling, and grounds care.
- Works professionally and collaboratively with co‑workers, students, staff, faculty, administrators, and community members.
- Attends meetings and/or in‑service activities as required by the Director of Facilities.
- Maintains a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Facilities Manager, or Director of Facilities.
Typical physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds; continuously kneeling, crouching, bending, and reaching; repetitive hand and finger movements; clear speech; and cognitive processing of instructions.
