Job DescriptionThe Facilities Technician is responsible for second‑shift operations of all existing facilities on the Claremont McKenna College campus. This includes preventive, corrective, and building maintenance; housekeeping tasks within residential and academic buildings; and grounds upkeep. The position provides an after‑hours presence on campus, reports illegal or disruptive activity to Campus Safety, and responds to student, facility staff, campus safety officers, and Dean of Students inquiries.
Responsibilities- Set up, clean up, and pick up for scheduled events; participate in cleaning fields for games and weekend events; attend event set‑up meetings as assigned.
- Respond to work orders promptly and coordinate with vendors for joint work orders.
- Assist campus maintenance personnel with preventative measures and perform minor maintenance repairs (plumbing, small leaks, shutting off valves).
- Provide after‑hours presence on campus and report illegal or disruptive activity to Campus Safety; may respond to emergency situations.
- Evaluate and respond to incidents and issues with the Dean of Students Office and Campus Safety; may enforce campus policies.
- Review and adjust sprinkler coverage throughout watering cycles.
- Perform housekeeping duties as needed, including cleaning bathrooms or dorm rooms, cleaning spills and glass, spraying for ants, and other duties inside and outside buildings.
- Remove and dispose of trash from exterior trash cans.
- Evaluate and reset circuit breakers.
- Troubleshoot basic HVAC complaints and address requests.
- Clean debris from tree lighting and review for proper function.
- Clean and wipe trash receptacles, glass rails, campus signage, and pipe handrails.
- Keep records of night‑shift incidents.
- Assist with access to various doors on campus for students and vendors.
- Solicit input from administrators in major buildings and departments to identify issues or concerns.
- Use powered blowers, lawn mowers, edgers, hedge trimmers, and other powered equipment as needed.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA, fire codes, and campus safety standards.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED, or any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent thereto. - Experience:
Minimum three years of grounds keeping or maintenance experience with increasing responsibility. - Licenses and Certification:
Valid driver’s license; forklift training and certification required. - Physical Requirements:
Able to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds from the ground to waist; climb ladders up to 6 feet; work on feet for prolonged periods; pass a functional capacity test. - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Safe working methods; knowledge of cleaning chemicals; ability to walk or drive safely around campus during nighttime and low‑light conditions; vehicle operation skill; clear communication; independent work; teamwork; uniform and safety equipment compliance; exposure to various odors and spills; light bulb replacement; basic plumbing; powered equipment use; ability to take and follow directions; receptive to constructive criticism; professional demeanor; multitasking;
reading and writing in English; knowledge and enforcement of college policies.
Regular hours: 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Friday through Tuesday. Hours may vary and may include earlier start times, overtime, weekends, and holidays. This is a full‑time, 12‑month, non‑exempt position with a pay range of $26.00 to $28.00 per hour.

Administrative InformationReport to:
Director of Facilities Hospitality. This position requires a full consumer background check and completion of a post‑offer physical agility test. All applicants must provide documentation verifying U.S. citizenship or legal work authorization. A post‑offer functional capacity test will be required.
