Basic Function

The Integrated Sciences Laboratory Infrastructure and Operations Manager in the Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences is responsible for the operation, maintenance, safety, and continuous improvement of the physical infrastructure and scientific instrumentation that support laboratory teaching and research in the Robert Day Sciences Center. The manager works closely with faculty, staff, vendors, contractors, and College units including Facilities and Campus Services and Public Security, to ensure that laboratories, scientific equipment, and building systems are safe, reliable, and fully operational.

The successful candidate will have familiarity with scientific instrumentation and laboratory infrastructure, together with a demonstrated willingness and ability to learn the operation of new equipment and systems. The position requires strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills, as well as the ability to respond effectively to both routine operational needs and unexpected equipment or facility issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Facilities, Infrastructure, and Maintenance
  • Coordinate routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs of laboratory infrastructure and scientific equipment.
  • Collaborate with Facilities and Campus Services on the maintenance and operation of building-integrated laboratory systems, including fume hoods, autoclaves, cold rooms, and related infrastructure.
  • Oversee infrastructure that supports laboratory teaching and research.
  • Respond promptly to equipment failures and facility emergencies and coordinate appropriate repairs, including issues that arise outside of regular work hours.
  • Manage the department stockroom and work with faculty and staff to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Support the Innovation Studio in acquiring, installing, and maintaining resources and equipment.
  • Coordinate the delivery, receipt, inspection, installation, storage, and relocation of laboratory equipment, materials, and supplies, ensuring that items are delivered to the appropriate laboratory or stockroom and installed or stored as appropriate.
Safety, Security, and Compliance
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable building, fire, and laboratory safety codes.
  • Conduct and participate in routine facility inspections.
  • Work in collaboration with CMC Public Safety and Emergency Management to follow the College's emergency management protocols and support emergency preparedness activities, including laboratory evacuation planning.
  • Help ensure that laboratory infrastructure and equipment remain compliant with applicable regulations and institutional policies.
Vendor Coordination and Financial Management
  • Coordinate work related to the function of science labs performed by Facilities and Campus Services, outside vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Maintain sufficient technical knowledge of scientific instrumentation and laboratory infrastructure to communicate effectively with vendors and service personnel.
  • Develop and monitor operational budgets related to laboratory infrastructure and equipment.
  • Solicit quotations, manage bids, and participate in vendor negotiations for equipment, maintenance, and repair services related to science labs.
Faculty, Staff, and Student Support
  • Maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and College staff.
  • Coordinate equipment setup, breakdown, maintenance, and repair activities in collaboration with faculty and staff.
