PRIMARY PURPOSE

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them clean, sanitary and orderly and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES High Dusting

Using a treated high duster, begin cleaning in a counter‑clockwise direction around the room—high dust surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents and ledges. Clean the high duster by gently brushing downward into the service cart.

Using a germicidal solution, work counter‑clockwise to sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trashcans).

Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot‑clean windows using a proper solution.

Bathroom Cleaning
  • Above and below sink
  • Toilet seat and the outside of the toilet bowl

The inside of the toilet is cleaned with a Johnnie Mop and proper germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim to remove germs. Soap and paper dispensers are checked and refilled daily.

Empty Trash Cans

If liquid is inside, remove the liner, wipe the can, and place a clean liner.

Floor Dusting or Vacuuming

Using a treated dust mophead, begin at the back of the room and use an "S" stroke to catch dust. Dust under all furniture, in restrooms, and up to just inside the door. Clear the mophead with a downward stroke and dispose dust in the service cart.

When vacuuming, start at the back and work toward the door, ensuring coverage under chairs and furniture.

Outside areas are cleaned and checked several times during the day, including:

  • Empty and clean ash urns and trash cans
  • Police sidewalks, flower beds and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts
  • Spot‑clean spills on sidewalks and remove gum with scraper
  • Wipe benches, vending machines, lower window ledges, and clean public area glass as needed
  • Police parking lot for trash
Public Common Areas
  • Dust mop and spot mop main hallways
  • Clean glass several times daily
  • Clean planters and remove bird waste inside and outside
  • Check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least twice weekly, checking corners and edges for dirt
Food Court
  • Clean, remove trash and sanitize tables; return chairs to tables
  • Spot‑clean spills
  • Empty and clean trash cans
  • Remove dirty trays and wash room, cleaning with tray power washer; stack clean trays on a shelf for reuse
  • Police outside eating areas
  • Using the proper germicidal solution, start at the back when sanitizing the floor; mop under furniture and behind doors as you back out
Your Inspection

After completing the room, mentally review cleaning steps and visually inspect furniture placement. Correct any issues to prevent complaints. Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are done daily.
