T-Combined Cycle Mechanical Maintenance Lead
Job Summary:
The T-Combined Cycle Mechanical Maintenance Lead is a hands-on, working lead position responsible for leading and performing the safe installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and monitoring of mechanical equipment and auxiliaries at the Combined Cycle Generating Station. This position provides day-to-day leadership to mechanical maintenance personnel while actively participating in field work, ensuring work is executed safely and in accordance with established procedures, and supporting reliable and efficient operation of the combined cycle generating facility.
The Lead serves as the senior operational authority on shift and sets the standard by example for compliance, professional conduct, and a high standard of performance, while encouraging others to do the same through daily direction of work.
What You Will Do:
- Standardization and enforce Power Production Operating Practices (PPOPs), ensuring consistent interpretation, application, and adherence across all operating crews.
- Lead Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) execution and governance, ensuring LOTO boundaries are accurate, standardized, and aligned with approved procedures to protect personnel and equipment during maintenance and outage activities.
- Oversee Maximo work management execution for Operations, including work request validation, operational readiness reviews, job planning coordination, and accurate completion documentation to support maintenance and reliability programs.
- Responsible for contributing technical knowledge and field coordination to support small plant projects from planning through completion.
- Plan, assign, and oversee daily and shift maintenance work activities, ensuring jobs are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved procedures, manuals, specifications, and codes.
- Serve as the senior mechanical authority on shift, providing guidance and decision-making support during normal, abnormal, and emergent plant conditions.
- Provide leadership and direction for all mechanical maintenance activities, including but not limited to, turbines, pumps, compressors, and related auxiliary equipment.
- Oversee assembly, disassembly, repair, inspection, and testing of mechanical equipment, including bearings, seals, packing glands, and precision components requiring close tolerances.
- Provide technical oversight for machine shop-type work, precision measurements, and alignment activities using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, feeler gauges, and related equipment.
- Oversee installation, repair, and replacement of piping systems and mechanical components throughout the facility.
- Direct and perform welding activities, including structural and equipment weld repairs, in accordance with approved procedures and safety practices.
- Collaborate with other departments to support operational goals and customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate mechanical maintenance activities with operations, engineering, and plant supervision to support plant reliability, productivity, efficiency, and outage execution.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices by observing safety rules, correcting unsafe behaviors or conditions, and modeling Alliant Energy's "Live Safety. Everyone. Always." culture.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, maintenance practices, plant reliability, and equipment performance.
- Ensure proper housekeeping, cleanup, and equipment preservation activities are completed throughout the plant and shop areas.
- Utilize computer applications and maintenance systems to support work planning, documentation, and reporting.
- May be required to support work at other Alliant Energy combined cycle facilities as operational needs dictate.
- Perform other duties that are similar, related, or incidental to this position.
Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED | Required
Required Experience:
- 2 years of mechanical maintenance experience and/or equivalent in an electric generating, manufacturing and/or processing/production facility
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience leading maintenance crews or serving in a senior mechanical role is strongly preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Must possess a valid drivers license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices in a power generation or heavy industrial environment.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to direct work, support crew members, and promote safe and productive work behaviors.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to work extremely close tolerances.
- Working knowledge of machine shop practices, equipment repair techniques, and precision measurement tools.
