Job Summary

No. The position focuses on maintaining and servicing hospital utilities, equipment, buildings, and grounds to create a pleasant, comfortable and safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
- Accomplish the completion of work orders and projects from inception to completion.
- Assist with patient watches, all emergency code responses, and general hospital security.
- Assure fair and consistent application of departmental, hospital and related policies.
- Document all preventive and corrective maintenance work orders completed noting work performed, date, supplies and equipment used, using electronic work order system.
- Ensure required paperwork is in before start of project and processed before close.
- Maintain and meet expectations on time for all competencies, licenses, certifications and education requirements set by local administration, Adventist Health, The Joint Commission, CMS and other regulatory agencies.
- Monitor and maintain a routine preventative maintenance program for the physical plant and related equipment.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for night and weekend coverage.
- Periodically inspect the facility and equipment.
- Recommend new and replacement equipment.
- Request periodic service on warranted equipment.
- Research and make recommendations on supplies needed to maintain all respective equipment using a work order system.
- Willingly perform other duties and innovations as assigned.
- Experience in trades such as boiler operation, building maintenance, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing and HVAC.
- Five years of experience as a maintenance engineer in a hospital setting or related field is recommended.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Able to use a computer.
- Demonstrate competence by planning and executing disaster drills internally and with Adventist Health and the community, responding in actual events, coordinating post-drill debriefs, documenting activities, evaluating drills, writing after-action plans, and recommending improvements.
- Must have certificates as required and complete Proper Authorities training annually.
- Valid California driver’s license with no moving violations within last three years and insurable under hospital’s insurance carrier.
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching, talking and hearing; occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and working from ladders.
- Occasional lifting of boxes and supplies up to 80 lbs; must be able to lift a 50‑lb box from the floor.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception.
- Potential exposure to blood & body fluids – Category 3.
