Public Works Assistant Director of OperationsNow hiring for a Public Works Assistant Director of Operations. This employee will be responsible for technical and skilled work overseeing the work of a unit engaged in collection of yard waste, grounds and streets maintenance, and other public works activities.
The employee coordinates a small staff engaged in a variety of work associated with yard waste and trash collection, streets, storm drainage, and other maintenance activities. Work includes leading staff in collecting leaves, limbs, furniture, appliances or other trash, patching asphalt, maintenance or construction of storm sewer system, landscaping and grounds maintenance, and small construction or renovations activities. Work also involves ensuring that crew members take proper tools, equipment, and supplies to the work site, and responsibility for work crew safety.
The employee is subject to working in inside and outside environments including extreme hot and cold weather and to work hazards including loud noise, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, poor ventilation, and oils. The employee must exercise judgement and initiative in carrying out assignments. Work is performed under regular supervision and is inspected for compliance with instructions, conformance to established standards, quality and productivity of work crews and adherence to schedules and priorities.
Employee must be able to do other public works related tasks as assigned by the Director of Public Works and Director of Operations.
Starting salary is $49,166 to $51,624 depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include:

QualificationsGraduation from high school and considerable experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special RequirementsA valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications.
