Position: Customer Engineer I - Cleveland, OH

This Customer Engineer (CE) position is responsible for installation, commissioning, scheduled and emergency service on small to large UPS units, Power Distribution Units, Battery systems, and other Power Products serviced by Vertiv. The role requires collaboration with customers, sales representatives, and co-workers, and adherence to company policies.

Responsibilities
  • Perform service tasks as assigned and per company policies and procedures.
  • Work under direct supervision or independently based on training completion.
  • Provide on-site and phone assistance to customers.
  • Communicate with Technical Support regarding technical or procedural issues.
  • Implement Field Change Notices according to published guidelines.
  • Stay current on safety bulletins, field change notices, and service tips.
Safety
  • Operate safely following published guidelines.
  • Maintain and operate company vehicle in accordance with local laws and company policy.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as per company guidelines.
  • Adhere to work hours policy, including the “14 hours rule.”
  • Complete required Vertiv safety training on time.
  • Follow on-site customer safety requirements.
  • Report all accidents or injuries within 24 hours.
Administration
  • Complete accurate and timely administrative tasks (timecards, expense reports, mileage reports, service request task closure, and service reports).
  • Maintain individual inventory and perform cycle counts per company policy.
  • Maintain company property (vehicle, credit cards, PPE, test equipment, laptop).
Customer Satisfaction
  • Provide clear communication to internal and external customers.
  • Provide estimated time of arrival when applicable.
  • Document scheduled maintenance properly and provide to customer and local office.
  • Strive to achieve a “first time fix” for equipment.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction rates per company guidelines.
  • Attend customer meetings as required.
Performance
  • Maximize productivity by combining service opportunities.
  • Complete technical and administrative work efficiently and timely.
  • Make technical and commercial decisions under pressure.
  • Evaluate site and equipment for appropriate billing status.
  • Maintain productive utilization rate per company guidelines.
  • Perform inventory cycle counts per company guidelines.
  • Adhere to dress code and safety regulations.
  • Meet or exceed on-site response time requirements.
  • Understand and comply with company startup and escalation processes.
  • Maintain adequate internal communication.
Qualifications
  • ASEET or AMEET certification or progress toward certification is preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of military experience in a related technical field.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Time management and ability to balance technical and administrative tasks.
  • Collaborative teamwork with peers, customers, suppliers, leaders.
  • Basic site evaluation skills and familiarity with electrical/electronic test equipment.
  • Ability to follow technical documentation and perform service tasks.
  • Elementary fix/repair techniques under supervision.
  • Summarize and report work in written and verbal form.
  • Proficient with personal computer and associated applications.
Working Conditions
  • Travel required.
  • Flexible schedules including weekends, evenings, holidays.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must pass a drug test, pre-employment background check, and motor vehicle records check.
Physical Requirements

Regularly stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle tools, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently sit and climb or balance. Must be able to comfortably lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Must have adequate vision including close, distant, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
