Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Primary Purpose
At our Cleveland Service Center site, located in Cleveland, Ohio, we re‑manufacture alternators for EVO, HDL and FDL locomotives. The Cleveland Center supplies alternators to locomotive manufacturing sites and repair points across the globe. This Electric Mechanic A will perform dismantling, cleaning, repairing, and rebuilding of components across multiple product lines efficiently and safely. Employees are involved in 5S and lean projects.
The role reports directly to the Supervisor.
This is a 1st shift position with standard hours Monday-Friday 6:30am–3:00pm.
Duties and Responsibilities- Perform complicated operations involving assembling, dismantling, cleaning, inspecting, and repairing components within the department.
- Demonstrate safety awareness and accident prevention.
- Understand electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, maintenance manuals, parts lists and prints.
- Use electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills to identify and correct problems.
- Meet aggressive delivery schedules and productivity goals and implement recommendations to improve repair processes and quality.
- Perform all tasks required to repair alternators and generators.
- Perform 5S and lean projects.
- Use torches, large impact guns, sanders, grinders, drills, and assorted hand tools.
- All other duties assigned by supervision, including potential brazing certification.
- At least 1 year in a manufacturing environment or equivalent experience.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Tow motor experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Regularly required to see and observe small handwriting, labels, and components.
- Required to wear steel‑toe shoes and safety glasses at all times while on the production floor.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be on‑site during scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.
Industrial environment with exposure to electronic testing equipment, periodic extreme cold or hot weather, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
SalarySalary rate is $25.46 /hr.
