Maintenance Supervisor

The Maintenance Supervisor oversees maintenance activities for an assigned shift and area, providing hands-on leadership to skilled tradespeople, apprentices, and laborers. This role assumes single-point accountability for equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability, while driving safety, continuous improvement, and effective workforce management in a union manufacturing environment. The position is highly visible on the production floor, coordinating closely with operations, engineering, contractors, and vendors to ensure equipment uptime and safe, efficient operations.

Responsibilities

  • Coach, supervise, and train skilled craftspeople, apprentices, and laborers in repair and maintenance activities for the assigned shift and area.
  • Assume single-point accountability for all maintenance activities during the assigned shift.
  • Perform frontline troubleshooting on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and press equipment within the area of responsibility.
  • Lead and direct safety awareness programs to promote workforce safety, maintain housekeeping standards, and support operations in safety analysis for the area.
  • Plan and coordinate daily activities for assigned maintenance crews, ensuring they have the necessary tools, materials, and technical direction for normal maintenance, preventive maintenance, and capital work.
  • Develop, manage, and execute preventive maintenance (PM) and other outage activities for equipment in the area of responsibility.
  • Use root cause analysis and "5-why" techniques to identify and eliminate causes of maintenance downtime.
  • Partner with the Engineering Department to address repetitive maintenance problems and continuously improve the reliability of equipment and facilities.
  • Develop, implement, and manage maintenance work procedures and standard practices to maximize work quality and eliminate waste.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing maintenance downtime, enhancing safety, improving work practices, and increasing employee involvement.
  • Assist other Maintenance Supervisors as needed to support overall maintenance operations.
  • Manage applicable labor issues effectively within the respective work area, including working with union employees and multiple crews.
  • Perform administrative tasks required to effectively manage the workforce, including documentation, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with upper-level management regarding maintenance performance, issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate daily with contractors, vendors, and hourly employees to coordinate maintenance work and support production needs.
  • Oversee approximately 5–10 union employees, working across overlapping shifts and multiple crews as coverage needs arise.
  • Work primarily on the production floor (approximately 80% of the time), with about 20% of time spent on office and administrative work.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of maintenance supervision experience.
  • At least 1 year of leadership experience in a union manufacturing facility.
  • Previous experience working in an industrial trade such as Electrician, Millwright, or Industrial Maintenance Technician.
  • Proven ability to supervise and coach maintenance teams in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with electrical maintenance.
  • Strong hands-on experience with mechanical maintenance.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and related troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform equipment troubleshooting in a production environment.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance practices and schedules.
  • Ability to plan, manage, and optimize maintenance scheduling, including PM schedules and press maintenance.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders and maintenance activities.
  • Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting as it relates to maintenance and equipment reliability.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and use "5-why" techniques to resolve recurring issues.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

This is a Permanent position based out of Cleveland, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $105000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
