Custodian

To provide the staff and students with a safe, attractive, clean and efficient place to operate the programs of the school district.

Essential Duties

• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and/or vacuuming floors.
• Clean classroom furniture and fixtures.
• Gather and empty trash.
• Dust furniture, walls, machines and/or equipment.
• Strip, scrub and wax floors.
• Wash windows, walls and ceilings.
• Clean and supply restrooms.
• Move furniture within the building to include desks, tables, chairs, bookcases, boxes and filing cabinets.
• Load, unload and deliver supplies.

Additional Responsibilities

• Work cooperatively with others.
• Occasional changing of ceiling tiles and light bulbs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Certification/Licensure:
Must have and maintain a valid drivers' license.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Must be able to understand and follow directions both written and verbal.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.
• Applicant subject to a pre-work screening test.
• Must be able to work all shifts and overtime when needed.

Working Conditions

• Climate controlled classrooms. Warmer temperatures in other areas.

Physical Demands

• Must be in good physical condition and able to work at varying heights, i.e. from a stepladder, scaffold, etc.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds up and down stairways and length of hallways. Example: one box of clay is 50 pounds.
• Will be required to efficiently operate equipment such as floor scrubbing machines, wet and/or dry vacuums, automatic floor scrubbers, snow blowers, etc.
• Requires climbing ladders, pushing and/or pulling.
• Requires considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting and lifting of classroom furniture.
• Frequent bending and twisting at neck and trunk.
• Must be mobile and able to perform a variety of manual tasks involving repetition.
• Ability to reach above the head and forward 0 to 24 inches and on occasion up to 36 inches.
• Must be able to tolerate exposure to chemicals used in general cleaning applications.
