Position Summary
The Female Locker Room Custodian keeps the YMCA clean, safe, and welcoming for all members, guests, and staff. This position actively maintains locker rooms, bathrooms, fitness areas, and common spaces through daily cleaning, light maintenance, and facility upkeep. The Custodian supports a positive member experience by taking pride in the appearance of the facility, responding to needs promptly, and working as part of the YMCA team to ensure a high standard of cleanliness and customer service.
EssentialFunctions
- Ensures the female locker rooms, bathrooms, and other areas are attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule.
- Maintains upkeep of assigned areas and equipment.
- May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, cleaning, window washing, vacuuming, and general cleaning.
- Exhibits a positive attitude towards other staff and members.
- Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and reports incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
- Ensures personal health by wearing gloves and using cleaning products properly.
- Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
- May help set up furniture for events.
- Assists Property Director with preventative maintenance.
- Assists with general upkeep of the grounds.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Experience preferred in housekeeping of a commercial facility.
- Must have a clear understanding of the importance of cleanliness and how it relates to member retention and success of the YMCA.
- Must have a clear understanding of the importance of quality customer service.
- Must have a caring and positive attitude towards his or her work.
- Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
- Ability to work with cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
- Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
- Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi-reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching, kneeling; carrying; working in narrow and/or confining spaces; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and laying on stomach and/or back.
- Must be able to comprehend and communicate written and verbal instructions.
- CPR & First Aid – Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives.
- Emergency Response – Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures.
- Incident Management – Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors.
- Safe Environment – Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants.
- Physical Readiness – Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities.
- Compliance – Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.
