Position Description
Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the care and cleaning of a state institution, public building, or state lodge, or in the supervision or management of employees performing these duties. This role focuses on housekeeping/custodial tasks related to building and grounds maintenance at the state institution located in Clinton, 3030 Custer Avenue. The hourly rate for this temporary part‑time position is up to $15.50 based on education and experience.
Responsibilities- Sweep, dust, mop, scrub, wash, vacuum, wax, and polish building floors, walls, woodwork, windows, furniture, equipment, and hardware.
- Cleans and sanitizes laboratories, washrooms, and bedrooms, and keeps washrooms supplied with paper, towels, and soap.
- Collects and disposes of trash and garbage; moves equipment and furniture such as beds, tables, and chairs.
- Performs sanitary inspections in designated areas for infection control.
- Orders and distributes custodial supplies and maintains inventory.
- Observes and reports safety violations and actively participates in emergency situations.
- Plans, assigns, and supervises all functions of a housekeeping department.
- Inspects quarters for maintenance of proper housekeeping standards.
- Stays present at the office as an essential function of the job.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and supports mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies, procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
- Works effectively in a team environment, participating and assisting peers.
- Six months of experience in building or institutional custodial work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Willing and able to perform all job‑related travel normally associated with this position.
- Valid driver’s license.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of various cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work, including proper procedures for disposing of waste and medically contaminated materials.
- Knowledge of chemical product safety.
- Skill to operate custodial equipment.
Work is typically performed in an office setting with climate‑controlled environments and moderate noise levels. Some work requires outdoor work in all weather conditions. Employees frequently need to talk, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, and use hands for extended periods. Lifting/carrying 80 pounds occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, and pushing/pulling a maximum force of 40 pounds. Lifts and holds overhead up to 40 pounds.
