Custodian - Fair Building (PART-TIME) Open Until Filled General Definition
The primary responsibility of this position is to perform various tasks in cleaning and maintaining the Zuni Fair Building.
Supervision ReceivedWork is performed under the general supervision of the Facility Manager.
Supervision ExercisedNo supervisory duties.
DutiesPerforms janitorial work on and near the building.
- Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, vacuums, and buffs floors.
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
- Washes windows & walls and cleans restrooms.
- Uses vacuum cleaners, dust, polishes, and cleans furniture.
- Works with the supervisor to ensure the building is maintained.
Responsible for building access and safety of the facilities.
- Assure that the gates are locked and the building is secure, locked, and inaccessible when the facility is not open.
- Responds to security alarm alerts and reports activity to supervisor.
- Performs visual walk‑around inspections of the building and premises after each workday to make sure that the building occupants are safe the next day.
- Assists with the inventory of building maintenance equipment and supplies to ensure that the program is adequately supplied.
Maintains buildings and the surrounding areas.
- Remove snow and ice from the appropriate premises during the cold months.
- Assists staff in setting up for meetings, special events, and activities scheduled in the facility.
- Change light bulbs as necessary.
Maintains equipment and materials used in the workplace.
- Assures that MSDS sheets are posted on all janitor closets.
- Keeps simple records of supplies used.
- Uses a variety of power tools and equipment.
- Runs errands, transports, and stocks supplies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to perform custodial/janitorial duties. Ability to safely use equipment and cleaning supplies, paying attention to caution labels and related matters. Some knowledge of minor building maintenance and repair. Ability to use power tools. Ability to read, write, and keep simple records. Ability to speak fluently and converse clearly in both Zuni and English, including the ability to translate between both languages.
Ability to follow verbal and written directions and instructions. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all tribal employees and the general public.
Must have a High School Diploma or GED with six (6) months of custodial/janitorial work.
License and CertificatesMust have a valid New Mexico Driver’s License with no DWI/DUI convictions within the past three (3) years. Driving is not an essential part of the duties.
- Must obtain a Standard First Aid and CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment.
The position requires moderate physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, repetitively lifting lightweight objects with frequent bending or stooping, and recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. Occasionally lift heavy objects (over 50 pounds). Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as masks, coats, gowns, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields. Position is subject to dust, pollen, exposure to various cleaning chemicals, and other allergens.
SpecialWorking Conditions
Position is subject to Pre‑Employment drug testing. Position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug screening for the duration of employment. Must undergo and pass a thorough background check, including FBI Fingerprints. Subject to on‑call status 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Some heavy lifting up to 75 lbs and other physical work will be required.
Position is subject to dust, pollen, exposure to various cleaning chemicals, and other allergens.
