Yard and Grounds Maintenance

Branch ISD operates Branch Area Careers Center, Special Education, Adult Education, Head Start, Early Head Start, Great Start School Readiness, Early On and the Family Success Program to three constituent school districts and one public school academy. Our mission is to ensure life-long learning opportunities to students and citizens in our constituent districts. We will provide leadership in cooperation with other local, regional, and state educational service agencies, as well as the private sector, to facilitate the effective and efficient delivery of high quality programs and services

• Education and/or certification:
• high school graduate
• Experience:
• 1 year experience in custodial, maintenance, or grounds work or,
• 2 years satisfactory work experience (self-employed, industry, government, etc.) beyond high school
• Other skills:
• good physical health, unrestricted use of hands and feet, and good eyesight and hearing (corrected), as needed for specific requirements
• able to work variable hours and shifts, as assigned
• able to plan work for self and others
• able to operate tractors, snow blowers, and other power equipment
• able to read and understand written instructions

• Perform routine work, repair, or service tasks in the following, general kinds of work:
• lawn mowing
• landscaping; including flowers, shrubbery, and trees
• blacktop/concrete
• curbing
• traffic/building signs
• security fence(s)
• playground equipment
• fuel storage tanks, piping, and pumps
• gravel drives and parking lots
• electrical
• plumbingcarpentry
• painting
• heating and air conditioning
• machinery repair
• relocate school equipment
• custodial
• Maintain grounds, including playgrounds, and equipment to state and local standards.
• Maintain buildings and equipment to state and local standards.
• Organize work to respond to Maintenance Request Forms within reasonable timelines and in a priority order, as determined in consultation with supervisor.
• Assist in preparing Branch ISD buildings in early morning as may be requested by administration or custodial/maintenance staff.
• Assist with "inside work" during inclement weather, as may be necessary or requested by Maintenance Team Members.
• Upgrade skills by attending technical classes, as directed.
• Perform safety inspections of yard and ground areas.
• Make arrangements, per district requirements and procedures, for contracted services as needed for yard and ground repair and/or service; in particular, snow removal and blacktop/concrete maintenance.
• Communicate equipment and supply requirements to immediate supervisor on a timely basis to allow for as much long-range planning as possible.
• Keep records of maintenance activities.
• Obtain and maintain a forklift operator license and registered pesticide applicator certificate.
• Other specific duties as assigned:
• operate hand/power equipment
• snow removal and salting
• light, daily maintenance on yard and ground equipment
• woodworking build or repair wooden items
• Maintain proper chemical treatment of water for boiler and chiller system at the Branch Area Careers Center.
• Emergency building custodial work, as per supervisor's request
• Perform many, varied school District tasks; refusal of a request is only justified when questionable safety practices are involved and/or there is a personal lack of skill to do the work
• Cover Shipping/Receiving Department during clerk's absence from the department, when possible.
