Location: South Campus Commons at The University of Maryland College Park, MD
Compensation: $20.50 - $21.50 per hour and a comprehensive benefits package
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SummaryThe Cleaning Services Technician maintains cleanliness, sanitation, and the overall appearance of residential buildings, common areas, and surrounding grounds within a student apartment community. The role ensures a safe, welcoming, and well‑maintained environment for residents, guests, and campus partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Cleaning & Custodial Operations: Clean and maintain residential common areas, sweep, scrub, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect interior and exterior spaces; clean carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture, windows, blinds, walls, ceilings, lighting fixtures, doors, and woodwork; empty waste and recycling containers; replenish restroom and cleaning supplies; clean resident units as assigned; complete all housekeeping checklists and schedules accurately and on time.
- Safety, Sustainability & Inventory: Follow all safety procedures and use required PPE; support sustainability initiatives through proper waste sorting and recycling; maintain custodial equipment, carts, tools, and supplies in a clean, organized condition; monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs; ensure areas meet community appearance and safety standards.
- Customer Service & Teamwork: Respond to resident, student, staff, and guest requests professionally; foster a positive team environment through reliability, communication, and willingness to support operational needs; secure buildings, lock/unlock doors, and report suspicious activity; perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support community operations and resident satisfaction.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2-3 years of housekeeping, custodial, facilities, hospitality, or residential community experience.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, teamwork, and a positive, service‑oriented attitude.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and coordinate tasks efficiently.
- Basic computer skills.
- Physical ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
The job requires frequent standing, walking, use of hands and arms, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasional sitting. The environment is moderately noisy and mid‑to‑high paced. Employees must work in wet or humid conditions, handle chemical propellants, and work outdoors during varying weather. Standard safety procedures and PPE must be used at all times.
