Dual-Property Chief Engineer
Soartress Hospitality is seeking an experienced, hands-on Dual-Property Chief Engineer to oversee the maintenance operations of our Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites by Hilton in Colorado Springs.
The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotels' buildings, grounds, mechanical systems, equipment, swimming pools, and life-safety systems. This position leads preventive maintenance and repair activities while ensuring both properties comply with Soartress Hospitality and Hilton brand standards and all applicable local, state, and federal codes.
The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with broad technical expertise who takes pride in maintaining safe, attractive, and fully operational hotels. This individual must be comfortable working across both properties, responding to urgent maintenance needs, and assisting wherever needed.
Property Maintenance and Operations- Direct the daily maintenance operations of both hotels.
- Perform general, preventive, and emergency maintenance accurately and promptly.
- Develop and manage comprehensive preventive maintenance programs for guestrooms, public areas, equipment, furnishings, and building systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, kitchen equipment, tile, roofing, painting, masonry, and other hotel systems.
- Monitor and maintain life-safety systems, utilities, mechanical systems, and equipment.
- Maintain the hotels' swimming pools, including daily chemical testing, chemical adjustments, cleaning, and filter maintenance.
- Monitor lighting, temperature, sanitation, and general property conditions to maximize guest comfort and safety.
- Maintain the hotels' exteriors and curb appeal, including snow removal, lawn care, painting, gardening, parking areas, entrances, and exits.
- Ensure all equipment and machinery operate safely and efficiently.
- Coordinate and oversee outside contractors, vendors, and service providers.
- Serve as project manager for renovations, installations, and capital improvement projects when assigned.
- Respond promptly to after-hours maintenance emergencies when necessary.
- Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, coach, and counsel maintenance associates.
- Assign and monitor daily work orders and ensure completed and pending requests are properly documented.
- Establish departmental goals, provide timely feedback, recognize strong performance, and hold associates accountable.
- Manage maintenance-related expenses, including labor, overtime, supplies, repairs, and outside services.
- Assist with the preparation and management of maintenance budgets and capital expenditure plans.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, work orders, preventive maintenance documentation, and required certifications.
- Work closely with the General Managers and other hotel leaders to prioritize needs across both properties.
- Communicate regularly with all hotel departments to identify maintenance concerns and ensure timely resolution.
- Ensure both hotels meet or exceed Soartress Hospitality and Hilton brand standards.
- Correct maintenance-related deficiencies identified during brand, safety, or quality assurance inspections.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building, fire, health, environmental, and safety codes and regulations.
- Minimize workplace hazards by following and consistently enforcing established safety procedures.
- Educate hotel associates regarding emergency procedures, safety precautions, and proper equipment operation.
- Maintain appropriate security practices, including adherence to key-control procedures.
- Identify and promptly report safety, security, and maintenance concerns that could affect guests, associates, or hotel assets.
- Respond professionally and promptly to guest-related maintenance concerns.
- Maintain a visible, approachable presence for hotel associates and leadership.
- Partner with associates across departments to provide a safe, comfortable, and positive guest experience.
- Demonstrate a willingness to pitch in and assist the hotel team whenever needed.
- Previous hotel maintenance or facilities-management experience required.
- Previous experience leading a hotel maintenance department or supporting multiple properties strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, refrigeration, and life-safety systems.
- Experience maintaining commercial swimming pools preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and project-management skills.
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team-building abilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities across two properties.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently.
- Professional and even-tempered when responding to urgent situations.
