Water/Wastewater Temporary Laborer
The City of Gunnison is seeking a hardworking and dependable Water/Wastewater Temporary Laborer to join our Public Works team. This part‑time position offers the opportunity to work outdoors while supporting essential services that keep our community running. In this role, you will assist certified operators in maintaining the City’s water supply, distribution, and wastewater collection systems, including helping with utility maintenance, ditch upkeep, water meter work, and general repairs.

This role involves a variety of physical tasks such as maintaining facilities and grounds, assisting with equipment operations, and supporting maintenance of pumps, motors, and other treatment system components. Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, strong attention to safety, and the ability to perform strenuous outdoor work, including lifting over 50 pounds and working in confined spaces. Employees who successfully complete the temporary assignment may also be eligible for an incentive completion bonus of an additional $1.84 per hour worked.
General PurposePerforms manual labor for the Water and Wastewater department. Responsible to assist in the operation of the water supply, distribution, and storage systems. Performs maintenance, repairs and construction of water distribution, sewer collection, irrigation and storm drain systems. Performs installations, repairs, and testing on all water meters under direct supervision of Certified Operators.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist in the City Collection system.
- Maintain City ditches.
- Aide in the maintenance of City utilities.
- Assist in the operations, maintenance of pumps, VFD’s, motors, and other specialized equipment to maintain the proper functionality of the treatment processes.
- Maintain access and cleanliness of facilities and grounds. Operate equipment to maintain plant access and cleanliness of facility appurtenances.
Performs other duties as required.
