Classification: On-Call, Non-Exempt (hours will vary)
Compensation Range: $19.00 per hour
Position SummaryThe Custodian provides custodial support to maintain clean, safe, and functional county facilities for employees and the public on an as-needed basis. This on-call position provides coverage for staffing shortages, special events, emergencies, and other operational needs. The ideal candidate is dependable, flexible, able to work independently, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and professionalism.

Essential Functions- Keep Spaces Sparkling: Sweep, mop, and vacuum offices, busy hallways, and public areas.
- Sanitize Restrooms: Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures while keeping essential supplies fully restocked.
- Manage Waste: Empty indoor trash and recycling bins, safely moving debris to central dumpsters.
- Detail & Polish: Wipe down desks, counters, windowsills, and high-touch surfaces.
- Floor Care Projects: Occasions call for operating commercial floor machines (buffers, auto-scrubbers) or assisting with carpet extraction and floor waxing.

Requirements- Minimum of 1-year documentable janitorial experience in any of the following areas:
Hotel, Motel, residential or commercial.
- Chemical exposure
- Slippery surfaces
- Musculoskeletal strain from repetitive tasks
- Biological and infectious threats
- Nonstandard work hours
- Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, or climbing.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
- Pushing, pulling, or moving objects.
- Repetitive motions.
- Hearing ability sufficient to respond to spoken communication.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles and/or machinery.
- Exposure to varying outdoor weather conditions.
- Work performed in a loud, noisy, or distracting environment.
- Exposure to fumes, chemicals, or hazardous materials.
- Occasional travel to offsite locations or satellite facilities.
- Work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, or high-volume environment.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or be on call.

Notice of Emergency/Disaster ResponsibilitiesAll Lake County Employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker when a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of County Commissioners. To be prepared for this role, all employees and emergency service function (ESF) leads will attend emergency management trainings and exercises as requested by the Director of Emergency Management. With advanced notification from OEM, employees will make reasonable efforts to attend training events in coordination with other employees and supervisors.
