Utility Plant Operator

This Utility Plant Operator is a Boiler Operator at the Limon Correctional Facility (LCF) in Limon, CO. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensuring a safe, healthy, comfortable, and secure working and living environment for staff, visitors, and inmates at the Limon Correctional Facility, through the implementation of timely, efficient, and correct operation, modification, maintenance, and repair of the facility physical plant (electrical and water distribution systems, water treatment systems, electronic and mechanical systems, heating and cooling systems, grounds, structures, laundry, and office-living-work areas).

This position maintains the Limon Correctional Facility's entire physical plant. Position promotes the Colorado Department of Corrections Mission, Vision and Values while adhering to a high level of integrity, commitment and providing excellent customer service. Position maintains safety and security of facility and work sites; through clear and accurate communication trains staff in the proper use of controlled items, tools, equipment and chemicals;

enforces security procedures by conducting work site searches; monitors workplace environment, paying close attention to changes, inappropriate activity or potential problems; responds to emergency situations such as fights, fires and escapes according to agency policy and writes and submits required reporting. Through conscientious observation, clear communications and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations, facility Implementation Adjustments and the Code of Penal Discipline, position promotes a safe and secure environment.

Position is subject to facility call back or working additional hours or shifts to maintain safety and security. Position ensures the safe, efficient, compliant and cost effective execution of assigned tasks and projects and the cleanliness of physical plant and equipment. Position is responsible for facility central plant (boiler house). Position assures proper operation of the LCF Central Plant by constant monitoring, testing, recording, certifying and completing corrective, preventive, predictive maintenance on chillers, boilers, generator, water treatment system and electrical switching devices.

Position may require working additional shifts and or hours to ensure safe and secure operations. Position ensures a clean, safe and secure work environment through scheduled sanitation procedures, tool/key inventory control and compliance to applicable health and safety codes. Position coordinates logistical support with other trades and shops in order to use resources efficiently; completes required documentation such as work orders and incident reports;

ensures all work completed is in compliance with all applicable standards, codes, regulations, and policy.
