University Operations
Job SummaryThe Utility Worker I (Grounds) position will be initially assigned to the Grounds division of University Operations and Event Services. This role performs manual, unskilled, and semi-skilled work involving campus cleaning, collecting trash, moving and delivering supplies and equipment, pressure washing, event and office setups, and other duties as assigned. Tasks do not require a high degree of manipulative skill. As experience is gained, more difficult tasks may be assigned.
This position requires flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed to support campus operations and events.
- Walks assigned areas of campus to collect and remove trash from common areas.
- Assists in special projects, such as setting up and moving furniture or equipment for special events on or off campus.
- Uses power equipment to clean buildings.
- Collects recyclable materials from campus buildings.
- Reads work orders and follows instructions.
- Assists in emergency preparations, such as clearing snow, ice, felled trees and limbs, etc. from sidewalks, roadways, and driveways.
- Operates delivery trucks or other equipment to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
- Works with moving and set up teams and grounds teams.
- Serves as a brand ambassador of University Operations and Columbus State University.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Required qualifications include a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training.
Proposed SalaryThe proposed annualized salary range for this position is $27,836 - $29,816 and includes full benefits.
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities include:
Ability to regularly lift 50 lbs. or more; ability to perform heavy lifting and strenuous manual tasks; ability to operate warehouse, delivery, and power equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, chainsaws, pressure washers); ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment including pulling and backing up trailers; ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions; a valid driver’s license is required for this position.
