Job Description

Position title:

Custodian. Non‑Exempt. $10.91 hourly. 249 work days.

Location:

To Be Determined.

Reports to:

Principal or Building Administrator. Primary function: maintain an attractive, sanitary, safe facility for students, staff, and the public; arrange equipment and furniture for meetings, classroom activities, and events; minimize property damage, loss, and liability exposure to the school district.

Requirements:

Educational Level: High School Diploma/GED preferred.

Experience: Job related experience is desired.

Physical

Activities:

Routine physical activities; perform work at heights up to 8 feet using ladders and/or scaffolding; lift up to 50 lbs and move furniture and equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Written and oral communication.

Essential Duties

Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.

Arranges furnishings and equipment providing adequate preparation for meetings, classroom activities, and events.

Attends in‑service training (e.g., instruction on blood‑borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, etc.) to receive information on new and/or improved procedures.

Cleans assigned school district facilities (e.g., classrooms, offices, gyms, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, pools, grounds, cafeteria, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive working and educational environment.

Delivers various items (e.g., supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) to the appropriate parties.

Flexibility in work schedule change is essential to facilitate work assignments based on the needs of the school.

Helps respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, alarms, etc.) to take appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues.

Inspects school district facilities to ensure the site is suitable for safe operations and maintained in an attractive and clean condition, identifying repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.

Performs work at heights of up to 8 feet using ladders and/or scaffolding for tasks such as cleaning light fixture covers, vents, changing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, etc.

Prepares school district facilities for daily operations (e.g., opening gates, disarming security systems, raising flags, placing crosswalk signs, performing minor repairs, etc.) to ensure facilities are operational and safe.

Secures school district facilities and grounds to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and potential liability.

Services job‑related machinery/equipment (e.g., adjusting, cleaning, and oiling vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, buffers, etc.) to maintain equipment in good working condition.

Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure efficient, effective functioning of the work unit.
