Major Duties and Responsibilities

The Technical Operations Field Technician is the first IT responder to client issues within the Columbus Consolidated Government (CCG). The Field Technician is expected to diagnose and troubleshoot common issues with client machines, network devices, networks, and other CCG technology equipment as necessary. They are expected to coordinate with other divisions within the CCG Information Technology department to solve more complex issues.

Additionally, the Field Technician is expected to be able to provide front-line customer support during times of emergency.

  • Troubleshoots, tests, repairs, and services client workstations or any other technology equipment.
  • Provides initial network issue triage.
  • Provides service and customer support during field visits.
  • Manages on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and testing.
  • Diagnoses errors or technical problems and determines proper solutions.
  • Produces detailed service reports.
  • Documents processes.
  • Operates vehicles and machinery in a safe manner.
  • Follows company procedures and protocols.
  • Cooperates with other IT Divisions and shares information across the organization.
  • Makes appropriate recommendations on repairs, diagnostics, and equipment specifications.
  • Builds positive relationships with customers
  • Maintains and expands job knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of computer hardware and its components.
  • Knowledge of standard repair and replacement of parts for workstations.

Knowledge and level of competency are commonly associated with completing specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the position's primary duties, usually associated with completing an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

  • Mental Acuity – ability to make rational decisions through sound logic, deductive reasoning.
  • Pulling - use upper extremities to exert force, haul or tug.
  • Pushing – use upper extremities to press against objects with force, or thrust forward, downward, outward.
  • Reaching – extending hands or arms in any direction.
  • Repetitive Motion – substantial movements of wrists, hands, fingers.
  • Speaking – expressing ideas with spoken word, convey detailed, important instructions accurately, concisely.
