TITLE: Custodian - Jerome HS, 2nd Shift (2:30pm - 11pm)

JOB STATUS: FLSA Overtime Eligible

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator or Coordinator, Custodial Services

DEPARTMENT: Business Operations

POSITION SUMMARY: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • A high school diploma or equivalent training and experience.
  • Proficiency in general repair, painting, cleaning, and operation of cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous manner.
  • A neat appearance.
  • Capability to carry out assigned duties.
  • Alternative qualifications acceptable to the Board of Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Keep building and premises, including sidewalks and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
  • Notify head custodian, maintenance supervisor, or principal of emergencies, and if necessary, turn off heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Comply with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the maintenance, repair, and operation of equipment and machines (OSHA).
  • Shovel and salt walks, driveways, and steps as appropriate.
  • Check daily to ensure all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during building occupancy.
  • Clean assigned classrooms daily and dust furniture as time permits.
  • Keep all floors and corridors clean, attractive, and well-maintained.
  • Scrub, mop, and disinfect toilet and lunchroom floors daily; clean sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
  • Wash all windows on both the inside and outside as weather permits.
  • Assist in keeping the grounds free of rubbish.
  • Empty all trash cans daily.
  • Clean all chalkboards at least once a week.
  • Perform minor building repairs as capable.
  • Report major repairs needed promptly to head custodian.
  • Report any damage to school property immediately to head custodian.
  • Remain on school premises during scheduled hours, excluding lunch, and during non‑school hours when building use is authorized and attendance required.
  • Assume responsibility for opening and closing the building each school day, ensuring all doors and windows are secured and all lights turned off except those left on for safety.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel as requested.
  • Move furniture or equipment as required for activities as directed by the head custodian.
  • Comply with all Federal, state, and local laws for storage, use, and disposal of trash, waste, and hazardous material (OSHA).
  • Report any student or public misconduct to the building principal immediately.
  • Report safety hazards on playground equipment, steps, halls, and all other parts of building and grounds to the head custodian.
  • Ensure the safety of students.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
  • Remain free of alcohol or non‑prescription controlled substances and abuse of prescribed controlled substances in the workplace.
  • Exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
  • Serve as a role model for students in civic conduct, responsibility, and ethical principles.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

261 days (251 work days and 10 paid holidays); 8 hours per day, excluding lunch; number of days of vacation, holidays, and salary as determined by negotiated agreement. Work year as established by the Board.

SALARY

$20.07/HR to $23.80/HR.
