Title:
BUILDING CUSTODIAN
Hours:
2:00 pm – 10:30 pm (8 hours per day with a 30‑minute unpaid lunch)
Pay: $21.19 per hour (calculated hourly)
Vacation: 10 days after one full year of service; monthly sick leave and 3 days personal leave.

To provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment for children and staff at the building level. The custodian maintains housekeeping, building security, and the preventive maintenance program for the building.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Ability to understand and follow instructions
- Basic math, writing, email and computer skills
- Ability to give instructions and lead others
- Physically capable of walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, crouching, crawling, lifting, reaching, and operating necessary tools and equipment
- Clean and maintain assigned building spaces and assist in other spaces as needed.
- Make minor repairs and report the need for further repairs to the maintenance supervisor.
- Properly clean all floor surfaces (sweep, scrub, mop, buff).
- Dust equipment, woodwork, and interior finishes and trim.
- Keep assigned restrooms thoroughly clean and sanitary.
- Replenish supplies in a timely manner.
- Empty and clean waste receptacles.
- Wash windows and walls.
- Assist in moving and arranging furniture and equipment.
- Maintain equipment and materials used in the work.
- Dispose of all trash according to the building’s established procedures.
- Receive deliveries to the building.
- Check operation of freezers and refrigerators during vacation periods.
- Perform tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor during emergencies.
- Complete other related duties as may be assigned by the principal or supervisor.
- Keep the front sidewalk and walkway clear of snow.
- Monitor and assume responsibility for energy‑saving policies of the building and district.
- Clean up spills and “accidents” such as product of illness.
- Replace light bulbs, starters, fuses, and tubes.
- Check exit lamps daily and replace bulbs & batteries when necessary.
- Check fire extinguishers monthly.
- Operate heating equipment.
- Clean range hood filters every two to four weeks.
- Unload deliveries and distribute packages.
- Clean and set up for school assemblies, programs, and other events.
- Complete all summer work in a timely fashion.
- Disinfect areas periodically or as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
12‑month contract or 9‑month contract; full‑time, eight (8) hours per day with a 30‑minute unpaid lunch.
EvaluationOne cooperative review by the Building Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor.
