Electronic Radiation Instrument Technician 3

Agency: Ohio Department of Public Safety – Emergency Management Agency

Work Location: 2855 W Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio 43235

Work Hours: 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM (subject to 24‑hour call)

Salary: $27.92 per hour

Schedule: Full-time

Overview

The Ohio EMA Radiological Branch team responds to nuclear and radiological emergencies 24/7. The Radiological Instrumentation, Maintenance and Calibration (RIMC) Lab maintains field monitoring teams, repairs, calibrates, and exchanges radiological response instruments used by emergency services personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure internal lab equipment and OP‑06 listed equipment is operational and up‑to‑date on calibration.
  • Perform weekly gamma range checks.
  • Conduct basic and complex repairs on analog and/or digital electronic radiation detection equipment.
  • Ensure radiological instruments are calibrated to NIST standards and internal laboratory standards.
  • Serve as backup to the quality manager in their absence.
  • Lead worker by providing work direction to lower‑level radiological instrument technicians performing repairs and calibrations.
Qualifications

Primary qualification option 1: Minimum 36 months experience in electronics, including at least 12 months with radiation detection instruments, radiation safety training, and training others in safety and instrument maintenance; 12 months experience or training in inventory control; 9 months experience or training in public relations; valid driver's license.

Primary qualification option 2: Completion of associate core program in electronics or electrical engineering; 36 months experience in electronics similar to Option 1; 9 months experience or training in inventory control; 6 months experience or training in public relations; valid driver's license.

Primary qualification option 3: 24 months experience as Radiological Instrument Technician 2 (job ); valid driver’s license.

Equivalent to minimum class qualifications acceptable.
