The Ohio Deaf and Blind Education Services supports the unique instructional and environmental needs of our deaf and blind students while furthering a vision of cohesion and collaboration.

Job Description

Maintenance department serves both the Ohio School for the Deaf and the Ohio State School for the Blind. The selected applicant will be assigned a primary work location at the time of hire, with the possibility of working cross campus.

Serves as lead worker (provides work direction, training) over lower-level maintenance repair workers or other assigned staff in performance of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repair work.

Performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repair work including carpentry repairs (doors, locks, cabinets, chairs, desks, floors, walls, windows, stairways, partitions), repairs of equipment (light fixtures, electrical outlets, switches, motors, appliances, electrical circuits, electrical components of heating & cooling systems, fans, radios) and repairs of plumbing equipment (water & steam lines, sewer pipes, trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, pumps, regulators, valves, faucets, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, heating, air conditioning).

Performs general maintenance and upkeep of school grounds and facilities: cuts grass, rakes leaves, trims hedges, removes dead trees or tree limbs; removes ice and snow from sidewalks and/or driveways; uses appropriate equipment (snow remover, tractor, lawn mower).

Inspects buildings and equipment for needed repairs or replacements and performs systematic & routine preventive maintenance of assigned area.

Operates machine tools and welding equipment in making repairs to metal parts and equipment.

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction and in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary; 12 months training or 12 months experience in maintenance repair (basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment). Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code;

in Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry only, applicants must have successfully completed the mandated basic firefighter/introduction to fire behavior course (S‑130/S‑190).

Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment can be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.
