Under the direction of the Stone Laboratory Lab Manager, serves as a Facilities Operations Lead for Stone Laboratory; leads and performs specific hands-on-duties as it relates to all facilities operations, including but not limited to: maintenance repairs/troubleshoots plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, boat docks, boats, and outboard motors; leads and initiates maintenance and repairs on facilities and grounds, including physical and technical upgrades as well as mechanical needs for buildings and boat docks located on South Bass and Gibraltar Islands;
maintains inventory of parts and supplies related to routine maintenance; maintains Stone Lab’s fleet of vehicles and coordinates annual inspections with 3rd party vendor(s); leads and submits requests for the procurement of goods/services related to building/boat dock repairs to be completed by external vendors;
Initiates and oversees external vendors contracted to perform building/ maintenance work; resolves problems with vendors contracted to perform work; approves invoices related to maintenance verifying work performed to satisfaction; interacts with faculty and students conducting research; co-leads the operation of equipment and troubleshoots miscellaneous problems with research equipment and repairs as needed; works with faculty, staff, and students regarding specific research needs to determine if equipment can be modified for specific purposes;
develops and implements ways to ensure excellent customer service delivery to students, faculty, staff, and guests of Stone Lab in relation to facilities operations; serves as boat captain (as needed) for all Stone Lab activities (research, education programing, and guest services); leads the development of knowledge base of information regarding Stone Lab facilities and utility needs and serves as expert to lead and advise management in these areas;
develops, implements and evaluates goals for the Shop in conjunction with goals established by management; attends and presents island status in leadership meetings; develops facilities and operations budget and internal controls as related to facility operations; identifies and communicates issues related to facilities operations; and manages seasonal Stone Lab operations associates to ensure optimal function of all Stone Lab operations.
Minimum
Education Required:
HS Graduate or GED.
Required Qualifications: Minimum of 4 years of experience in maintenance repairs and troubleshooting of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC; enrollment in a random drug screening program; knowledge of the Put-In-Bay area and Lake Erie; outstanding customer service skills; ability to work with a diverse population; and successful completion of background check.
Desired
Qualifications:
Current 50-Ton Masters License (for operation of boats on Lake Erie); current Transportation Workers (TWIC); current Marine Radio Operators License; and Certification or vocational training.
