Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance
Gurwin Healthcare System is a full healthcare continuum providing extraordinary care to the Long Island community and beyond. Set primarily on a 36-acre campus in Commack, NY, the Gurwin Healthcare System includes the 460-bed Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Gurwin's Assisted Living community (Gurwin Jewish : Fay J. Lindner Residences), our independent living community (Fountaingate Gardens), Island Nursing and Rehab Center, and two certified (CHHA) and licensed home care (LHCSA) agencies.
We are currently seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician who is able to work varied days and shifts in our independent living community, Fountaingate Gardens.

- Valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of and compliance with company standards, policies, and procedures
- Maintain property standards for cleanliness, appearance, safety, and functionality
- Maintains a professional appearance at all times by practicing good personal hygiene and wearing a clean, presentable uniform.
- Respond to service requests in a timely, professional, and customer-focused manner
- Flexibility to work overtime, on weekends, and participate in the emergency on-call rotation as dictated by business needs.
- Assist with preventative maintenance programs and scheduled inspections
- Conduct property walks and equipment audits; identify and address maintenance issues
- Safely operate hand and power tools
- Perform unit turnover activities, including cleaning, painting, and repairs
- Maintain consistent communication with the management team regarding timelines, priorities, and progress
- Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
- Participate in snow removal activities as directed by the management team

Working knowledge and hands‑on experience with:
- Various HVAC systems
- Plumbing (water heaters, drain clearing, fixture repair and replacement)
- Minor electrical repairs
- Appliance repair
Drywall preparation and repair, painting, and basic carpentry
General understanding of building systems, including fire sprinkler, fire alarm, and central mechanical/HVAC systems (as applicable).
Understanding of and ability to assist with work order management and apartment make‑ready processes.
Ability to learn and effectively navigate assigned maintenance applications and related technologies.
Development & Training- Ongoing technical training
- Providing resources and support to help you successfully complete and maintain all necessary credentials, such as EPA type I, II & Universal, CPR, CPO, and standpipe certifications (NYC).
