Responsibilities- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and vacuuming.
- Care for different types of floors (carpet, tile, VCT, wood) by hand and/or power equipment.
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
- Team-clean or shampoo carpets.
- Trip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
- Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
- Gather and empty trash.
- Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
- Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
- Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
- Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware and metal instruments, using solvents, brushes, rags, and power cleaning equipment.
- Monitor building security and safety by locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
- Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
- Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas by spreading snow melting chemicals.
- Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as sporting events, banquets, and meetings.
- Job assignments can vary from facility to facility with the possibility of transfer.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The job requires extended periods of walking and/or standing, and the employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including AIDS and Hepatitis B Virus. The noise level is usually moderate. Reviews will be conducted on a 90‑day, 6‑month, and annual basis in the first year of employment. All jobs are considered temporary in nature contingent on employee performance and/or ability to meet the above requirements.
