Traveling Custodian @ Maintenance Building #1257
Location:
Mt. Diablo Unified School District Maintenance Building, Concord, California.
Position Type:
Full-Time. Salary: $22.05 to $26.79 per hour. Calendar: 260 days.
Start Date:
Immediately.
Under immediate supervisor, performs routine custodial services across multiple school sites covering vacancies or absences. May cover AM or PM shifts as assigned.
Work Hours8 hours per day, 260 work days per year.
Example of Duties- Sweeps, mops, waxes and scrubs floors.
- Dusts, washes, and polishes furniture and woodwork.
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
- Washes windows and walls, cleans restrooms and classroom heaters and screens, sweeps sidewalks and play areas.
- Moves and arranges furniture and equipment.
- Clean fountains.
- Polishes metalwork.
- Replaces light bulbs.
- Replenishes supplies.
- Turns out lights and locks doors and windows.
- Reports need for repairs.
- Watches buildings to prevent vandalism and provides building security.
- Operates power cleaning equipment.
- May do limited grounds maintenance work.
- May make minor non‑technical repairs.
- Provides low‑level maintenance to school property, grounds, buildings and equipment.
- Receives and stores supplies and equipment.
- Opens and closes buildings.
Training and
Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A combination of training and experience equivalent to two years custodial work.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
- Understanding and carrying out oral and written directions.
- Using common cleaning equipment.
- Manual work associated with custodial duties.
- Simple building and grounds maintenance and minor repair work.
- Computer skills preferred; district e‑mail usage required.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
- Learning and interpreting rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Working effectively at multiple district sites.
- Job requires approximately 5% sitting, 50% walking, and 45% standing.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects that may frequently exceed 50 lb.
- Physical strength, mobility, and stamina required for moderate physical labor and working outside during inclement weather.
- Ability to reach horizontally and vertically; good dexterity for small objects.
- Ability to tolerate extended contact with water, detergents, solvents, disinfectants, paint, and other harsh chemicals.
- Ability to tolerate foul odors, dust, and pollen.
A valid California Driver’s License.
Job Requirements- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
