Groundskeeper, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Responsibilities
- Maintain grounds in summer: mow lawns; seed, fertilize and run irrigation; plant flowers and shrubs; prune trees and shrubs; remove weeds and brush using power equipment.
- Maintain grounds in winter: remove snow and ice from parking lots and sidewalks using shovels, snow blowers and plows; salt and sand; keep fire lanes, hydrants, propane tanks, and generators clear; perform dormant winter pruning.
- Perform other seasonal grounds work: rake leaves, sweep sand, repair walkways, clean drains.
- Pick up trash around buildings and dorms.
- Move furniture; relocate offices, set up furniture in dorms.
- Assist with basic construction tasks related to grounds maintenance (ditch digging, road repair, fence and sign repair/installation).
- Carry out other special work orders (deliveries, pick‑ups, facility set‑ups/tear‑downs for special events).
- Operate a wide variety of power tools and grounds maintenance equipment, including large equipment loaders, backhoes, skid‑steer, and tractors.
- Follow established health and safety procedures.
- Keep storage areas clean and organized.
- Perform specialized grounds maintenance tasks such as maintaining athletics fields, planning and overseeing maintenance of perennial flower beds, and the like.
- Perform specialized equipment maintenance and repair tasks.
- Train and direct the activities of seasonal help.
Vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop or kneel, crouch and crawl, and climb or balance. Must use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear. Must move furniture, lift and carry up to 75 pounds, and handle and operate power tools and machines.
Work EnvironmentEmployee may be exposed to outside weather conditions, wet areas, moving mechanical parts, very high places on ladders, scaffolding, or lifts, and toxic or caustic chemicals such as pesticides.

Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED. One year of experience in directly related work, or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position.
Language SkillsAble to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical SkillsAble to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning SkillsAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsPossession of a current, valid NH driver’s license required.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Ability and desire to seek training to enhance or learn new skills. Ability to effectively interface with all levels of staff.
Additional InformationThis is a full‑time, full‑year staff position. Employee must be willing to work overtime as required. Must be available for emergency call‑in, early morning and/or late night hours when snow or ice is forecast. Weekends are required for school events.
