Maintenance Mechanic (Day + Night Shift)
Job Description
The Maintenance Mechanic ensures that all production and facility equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently in a high-speed beverage packaging environment. This role focuses primarily on mechanical systems with some basic electrical work, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of equipment while supporting production needs and continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities- Ensure that facility equipment and machines are properly maintained and operating correctly to support safe and efficient production.
- Oversee the facility’s maintenance program by identifying, analyzing, and resolving equipment and machinery failures in a timely manner.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on all production and facility equipment as directed to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Troubleshoot and repair high-speed filling and packaging equipment, including bottling lines and associated systems.
- Repair and maintain mechanical equipment such as fillers, case packers, conveyor systems, palletizers, water purification and filtration systems, and other production equipment.
- Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot production equipment and instruments as assigned, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Support all production needs by leading and assisting with production line changeovers, focusing on improving speed and accuracy of product changeovers.
- Execute work orders on time and in the proper priority as assigned by the planner/scheduler or management.
- Provide technical training and guidance to operators and other team members to promote proper equipment use and basic troubleshooting.
- Coordinate work performed by outside contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants to ensure quality and timely completion of projects.
- Continuously improve preventive maintenance plans and processes to enhance equipment performance and reliability.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in all work areas during and after maintenance activities.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of maintenance shop and parts storage areas as assigned.
- Always work in a safe manner by following all established safety rules, regulations, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Use basic electrical tools, including volt meters, to perform simple electrical troubleshooting and tasks as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall facility operations.
- Experience as a maintenance mechanic or maintenance technician in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years of manufacturing experience required.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills, with approximately 80% of the work focused on mechanical systems.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on production and facility equipment.
- Hands‑on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic work on 480V motors and 3‑phase electrical systems.
- Experience with electrical troubleshooting, including the use of a volt meter and reading electrical schematics.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics.
- Experience troubleshooting and supporting high‑speed filling and packaging equipment, including bottling lines.
- Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting at a basic level.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills for diagnosing equipment and system issues.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to manage work orders and maintenance tasks effectively.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments in a fast‑paced production environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to work effectively with production teams, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software for documentation and communication.
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive actions such as bending and stooping.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to access and navigate all areas of the production facility.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to commute or a plan to relocate before starting work.
