Environmental Services – Seasonal Worker
Collect litter in the Town and on the beach strand. Keep public accesses and storm drains clear to provide safe passage to the beach. All applicants must successfully complete a pre‑employment drug screen and a criminal background check.
General Statement of DutiesPerform duties in accordance with established Town rules and regulations, and be held accountable for successful completion of assigned work orders. Seasonal employees are subject to hazards such as extreme temperatures, noise, atmospheric conditions, and OSHA blood borne pathogen standards. Work is under general supervision and evaluated by observation for efficiency and effectiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities- Remove litter from public areas, streets, beach accesses, and beach strand according to the route provided by WBPW Environmental Services and Stormwater supervisor.
- Remove sand from public parking areas and public accesses.
- Ensure all storm drains are clear of debris.
- Pick up Town recycle receptacles.
- May perform miscellaneous stormwater tasks or assist other departments within Public Works.
- Work weekends and summer holidays.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of job hazards and OSHA safety requirements.
- Working knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations regarding operation of town vehicles and equipment (leaf blowers, push mowers, vacuum equipment).
- Ability to prepare electronic or written records.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Perform basic life operational functions – climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling – and repetitive motions.
- Perform manual work exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, and 10 lbs constantly.
- Possess visual acuity to operate motorized equipment and distinguish traffic patterns to avoid injury to self and others.
Education and Experience
High‑school graduation and experience in operating motorized vehicles, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirement- Possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
All Public Works employees may be required to assist in other divisions. In an emergency, all employees are essential personnel and may perform alternate duties.
Salary DescriptionPay starts at $15.39 per hour DOE.
