Rest Area Assistant Superintendent – Lead With Purpose

Goodwill serving Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania is looking for a Full-Time Rest Area Assistant Superintendent to oversee roadside parks, rest areas, custodial services, lawn care, and daily contract operations.

This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who enjoys working with people, solving problems, maintaining high standards, and keeping operations running safely and efficiently. You’ll lead a diverse team, coordinate with contracting agencies, and help create meaningful employment opportunities through the power of work.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead daily grounds, custodial, lawn care, and roadside park operations
  • Supervise, coach, train, and support a diverse team of employees and clients
  • Ensure work meets contract requirements, quality standards, and deadlines
  • Prioritize the safety of employees, clients, visitors, and the traveling public
  • Coordinate with ODOT, DAS, OOD, Jobs and Family Services, and other agency partners
  • Manage employee schedules, task assignments, time records, and daily workflow
  • Monitor staffing, supplies, equipment, and operational costs
  • Maintain inventory and oversee purchasing according to contract requirements
  • Train employees on proper equipment use, chemicals, PPE, and safety procedures
  • Maintain SDS documentation and ensure required safety training is completed
  • Keep Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) current and review them annually with supervisors
  • Report maintenance needs, incidents, safety concerns, and other operational information
  • Ensure employees maintain proper uniforms, grooming, and professional standards
  • Assist with lawn care, custodial, snow removal, and grounds maintenance as needed
  • Maintain and operate lawn care and snow removal equipment
  • Partner with Workforce Development staff to support client training and employment goals
  • Protect company property, equipment, and supplies from misuse or theft
  • Participate in the safety committee and support continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous supervisory experience in a grounds, custodial, facilities, manufacturing, or similar environment
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to lead and work effectively with a diverse workforce
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills
  • Comfortable using email, Excel, and other basic office technology
  • Ability to operate and maintain lawn care, snow removal, and related equipment
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer service
  • Ability to work independently while effectively managing competing priorities
Education
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills required
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs frequently
  • Prolonged standing with frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping, pushing, and pulling
  • Frequent overhead reaching and use of both hands for tools and equipment
  • Occasional climbing, balancing, crouching, or crawling
  • Moderate to intense physical labor
  • Outdoor work in extreme heat, cold, rain, and changing weather conditions
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, allergens, odors, dust, and other environmental irritants
  • May operate power equipment and be exposed to elevated noise levels
  • Fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions and occasional critical or unusual situations
