Indian Mountain School is seeking a part-time Math Specialist Science teacher and Math Specialist for the Lower School (grades PreK - 4th Grade). The candidate should show a high level of competency in teaching mathematics and science in a developmentally appropriate way. They should have experience teaching elementary-aged children and a strong motivation to develop students’ mathematical mindsets, curiosity, exploration and investigation, and creative and critical thinking skills.

Responsive Classroom training will be advantageous as well as experience using Project-Based Learning (PBL). Experience with the NGSS and FOSS curriculum is also beneficial. The individual in this role will be a collaborative member of the teaching faculty who is adept at partnering with classroom teachers and is eager to support all students’ mathematics progress. They will also need to collaborate with the other special area teachers and be comfortable with hands‑on, nature‑oriented activities and projects.

They will provide a safe learning environment that encourages inquiry, risk‑taking, and creativity by using rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Support PK - 4th grade classroom teachers’ mathematics instruction through small group and individual work with students
  • Teach science classes to students in Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten, and First, Second, Third and Fourth Grades once per week
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver science lesson plans and assignments in a safe and appropriate manner using FOSS science curriculum and any relevant supplements. Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Lead whole school mathematical assessment periods and support and manage classroom teacher math assessment delivery
  • Regularly communicate with classroom teachers about student progress
  • Contribute to all student progress reports and conferences
  • Perform Recess and Lunch supervision duty as assigned
  • Support the school’s mission and strategic plan initiatives
