Full-time Custodian

Reports to Principal, Director of Finance & Business Services, Superintendent of Schools.

Summary:

Custodians are responsible for the repair, maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of all district facilities and grounds. Their mission is to maintain the school's physical facilities in a condition of cleanliness and safety.

• High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Manual skills to perform cleaning tasks and minor repairs of building and equipment
• Mechanical skills to operate cleaning and groundskeeping equipment
• Reliable transportation and a valid Driver's License
• Must pass local and federal background check
• Must pass a pre-employment physical exam which includes drug testing

• Perform all custodial activities as directed by Head Custodian or Administration, including maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable school building environment and grounds.
• Keep buildings and grounds neat and clean at all times.
• Clean and maintain all assigned work spaces and equipment.
• Perform cleaning and disinfecting tasks (restrooms, drinking fountains, cafeteria, gymnasium, classrooms, windows, hallways), floor care (wax, buff, strip, mop, sweep, vacuum), building operations (open/close building, regulate HVAC, move furniture, set up for special events). Conduct walkthroughs with health and fire inspectors and manage trash disposal per local laws.
• Maintain clean and attractive school grounds by mowing, raking leaves, trimming trees and shrubs, cutting weeds, mulching, cleaning drains, curbs, and walkways, inspecting playground equipment for safety and removing snow/ice.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs of buildings, equipment, and grounds.
• Assist in building and grounds security by unlocking/locking all doors and gates after use and at the end of the workday.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Communicate general information with school staff, students, and visitors.

Equipment used includes a vacuum cleaner, maintenance tools, floor polisher, sander, carpet cleaner, lawnmower, and other appropriate equipment.

Work involves frequent walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, operating powered machinery with manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Regular standing, walking, hand use, talking, hearing, reaching, occasional sitting, squatting, stooping, kneeling, winding. Must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds independently, occasionally up to 100 pounds, push/pull items. Safety rules, training, and protective equipment required.

• Per Custodial Contract with the NAGE
• Pay Rate $20.61

• Must pass federal and local background checks.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must complete all pre-employment requirements before the start date.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
