This position is a permanent, full‑time water pollution control operator responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Class IV Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) and associated lift stations at the Storrs Campus. The role includes water reclamation, equipment monitoring, routine maintenance, chemical dosing, and SCADA alarm response.

Work schedule is first shift 40 hours per week, to be determined based on operating needs: either Sunday–Thursday (7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.) or Tuesday–Saturday. Paid half‑hour lunch is included. The position may require weekend differential and overtime, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Must be willing to work during emergency closures or special events that affect campus operations. May lead trainees, students and interns and may be required to perform duties at regional campuses. A current motor vehicle license is required.

This position is open to the public; qualified UConn NP‑2 employees receive preference. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed below and indicate any preferred qualifications.

• Operate and maintain equipment such as grit chambers, step screens, bar racks, grinders, pumps, chemical dosing systems, dewatering systems, clarifier tanks, chlorination chambers and others.
• Perform routine repairs or replacements of equipment including valves, motors, pipes and pumps.
• Perform biological and chemical analyses of water pollutants.
• Record meters and gauges and interpret operating data.
• Prepare operational records and reports.
• Assist with the fats, oils and grease (FOG) inspection and removal program.
• Adhere to safety and cleanliness standards.
• Maintain the facility and lift stations.
• Respond to and resolve SCADA alarms.
• Perform related duties as required.

• Knowledge of the operations of a large, multi‑treatment water pollution control facility, repair and maintenance of pumps and tanks, and sampling procedures for laboratory analyses.
• Skills:
  
  interpersonal, oral and written communication.
• Ability to perform required chemical tests, keep operational records, and use the SCADA system and other relevant software.
• Mechanical ability.

Experience operating and maintaining a Class I or higher biological wastewater treatment facility, including skilled mechanical maintenance duties and/or laboratory analysis of wastewater, as required by Connecticut DEEP regulations.

• Current Class I Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator Certificate, maintained throughout employment.
• Current motor vehicle operator license.
• Required DEEP certifications, licenses or permits as per regulations.

• Experience supervising trainees, apprentices or interns in the wastewater field.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with iPad, laptop or similar technology.
• Computer skills using MS Word, EXCEL, Outlook, GEIFIXX or similar programs.
• Relevant education or training in environmental, chemistry or mechanical fields.
• Proficiency in applying mathematical skills.
• A current State of Connecticut P‑1 or P‑2 license.

• Adequate physical strength, stamina, agility and visual/auditory acuity necessary to perform job duties.
• Ability to drive and operate various motor vehicles and landscape equipment.
• Capacity to lift, carry and push up to 75 lb.; climb ladders, use scaffolding, high lifts and enter confined spaces.
• Will wear PPE when required.

Exposure to extreme weather, chemicals, loud machinery, and waste. Routine lifting of moderately heavy weights and working in uncomfortable positions may be required.
