Position: Equipment Repair Technician - Child Nutrition - 2026-2027

Equipment Repair Technician
- Child Nutrition -

Starting Date: Immediately

Primary Purpose

Perform installation, maintenance, preventative maintenance, and repair of all kitchen equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with good driving record and insurable by Judson ISD insurance carrier
  • EPA Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certified on Types I, II, and III (Universal Certification required)
  • Positive fingerprinting background check
Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Working knowledge of steam, electric, and gas food service equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics
  • Knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
  • Work independently and well with staff
  • Availability to work after normal hours if required
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years in equipment repair
  • Experience with boilers, compressors, commercial cooking equipment, ice machines, and refrigeration equipment
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Comply with District directives and Food Service Policies and Procedures
  • Perform preventive maintenance and periodic checks of all food service equipment
  • Ensure safety regulations are followed
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics; maintain knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems
  • Estimate and purchase necessary materials; maintain truck inventory
  • Develop procedures and schedule for preventive maintenance
  • Report status of potential/pending problems to the food service director
  • Keep district tools and equipment in working order
  • Complete required paperwork for maintenance requests and work orders daily
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Develop and maintain good rapport with personnel at each serviced facility
  • Perform occasional work after normal duty hours as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on department needs
  • Complete designated district technology proficiencies each year; basic computer skills needed
  • Use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and resources
  • Maintain professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality essential
Equipment Used
  • Steam, electric, and gas food service equipment
  • Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax
Mental Demands
  • Ability to read, concentrate, communicate effectively, interpret and analyze information, and manage interference and stress
Physical Demands
  • Frequent: sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions; hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors; driving, traveling
  • Occasional lifting up to 44 pounds
  • Frequent exposure to temperature extremes, humidity, noise, low/intense illumination, vibration
  • Occasional exposure to biological hazards such as bacteria, insects, mold, fungi
  • Work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces
  • Work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours
