Library Facility Technician Job Coos Bay area,Oregon USA,Maintenance/Cleaning

JOB DESCRIPTION

Performs a variety of manual tasks for custodial maintenance and care of the Coos Bay Public Library facility. Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the facility to include conducting rounds of the facility and grounds to look for and correct or report issues.

SUPERVISION

Works under the supervision of the Deputy Library Director who reviews work for conformance with established goals, policies and procedures. Supervision of other employees is not typically a responsibility in this position.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK

Picks up trash in parking lot and landscaped areas around the library, keeps dumpster enclosure area free of debris, cleans windows, and reports problems or safety hazards to management.

Sweeps, vacuums, mops, dusts, and shampoos floors, carpets, and furniture throughout the library including employee work areas and conference rooms.

Dusts and cleans areas ensuring that office papers and/or library materials are not destroyed or damaged. Empties wastebaskets and relines with liners as needed, at least once daily.

Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, replenishes supplies and keeps the restrooms neat in appearance, including cleaning stall partitions, vacuuming ceiling vents, replacing urinal cakes, cleaning and sanitizing toilets and urinals, etc.; cleans spills; cleans drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc.

Conducts frequent rounds of library grounds and facilities and reports any violation of library policies to management promptly.

Inspects and maintains assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating condition. Keeps inventory of supplies and makes requests when needed.

Responsible for security of building when work is completed; checks outside doors and windows and fire doors to make sure they are locked.

Cleans floors, tables, chairs, countertops, and windows in the conference rooms and main library and performs room setup as needed.

Adheres to all safety protocols, including proper use of chemicals and equipment. Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations, including OSHA standards.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do custodial maintenance; some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to work independently and to complete daily work activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time;

ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely. Good physical condition (physical examination may be required).

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Previous commercial custodial experience preferred. Any combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Carpet cleaners, vacuum, mops, broom, dusting equipment, small tools, standard cleaning products, and appropriate personal protective equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and operate objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
