Day Porter / Janitor
This role supports cleanliness and sanitation within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment by maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant facility. The Day Porter/Janitor performs routine and detailed cleaning tasks, adheres to strict sanitation and safety standards, and follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and established procedures to ensure a hygienic workplace.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitization of offices, production support areas, breakrooms, restrooms, locker rooms, and common areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and clean floors and surfaces throughout the facility to maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
- Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste in accordance with company procedures and safety guidelines.
- Restock restroom, breakroom, and cleaning supplies as needed to ensure continuous availability.
- Clean and sanitize high-touch surfaces regularly to support a hygienic and safe work environment.
- Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety protocols, and facility cleaning procedures at all times.
- Maintain accurate cleaning logs and documentation as required by facility standards and regulations.
- Identify and promptly report maintenance, safety, or sanitation concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist with special cleaning projects and facility setups as needed to support operations.
- Properly handle, label, and store cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Operate cleaning equipment such as buffers, vacuums, and floor scrubbers safely and effectively.
- Respond to work orders and cleaning requests in a timely and professional manner.
Essential Skills
- 2–3 years of janitorial, custodial, or day porter experience.
- Demonstrated experience in commercial cleaning, general cleaning, and housekeeping.
- Proficiency in floor care, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and buffing.
- Experience with sanitization and disinfection practices in a professional environment.
- Knowledge of trash removal and waste management procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and quality.
- Effective time management skills to complete tasks within assigned shifts.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and safe handling procedures.
- Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and safety regulations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the shift.
- Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as buffers, vacuums, and floor scrubbers.
- Experience with restroom cleaning and restocking.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a pharmaceutical, manufacturing, healthcare, laboratory, or other regulated environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with industrial cleaning in production or manufacturing settings.
- Ability to handle multiple work orders and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong awareness of chemical handling and safety best practices.
- Comfort working in environments that require adherence to strict sanitation and compliance standards.
