General Purpose
Utilize and navigate a work order system. Updates and completes work orders, turns water service on or off as required, inspects meters and connections for defects, damage and unauthorized connections, and reports problems to supervisor.
Supervision Received and ExercisedReceives direct supervision from the Utility Administration Manager and Meter Technician Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Utilize and navigate a work order system using a desktop computer and tablet.
- Update and complete work orders using a tablet and desktop computer.
- Turn water service on or off as required.
- Verify readings to locate abnormal consumption and record reasons for fluctuations.
- Inspect meters and connections for defects, damage and unauthorized connections and report problems to supervisor.
- Pull and reset meters at the City’s request.
- Deliver notices to customer service addresses.
- Perform routine maintenance on vehicles as required.
- Cross train in other department areas.
- Work well with others and maintain a good/pleasant attitude.
- Maintain regular and timely attendance.
- Follow directions.
- May serve as a member on other committees as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Preferred one (1) year experience in meter reading, data entry, word processing, or general office or related area.
- Valid Texas driver’s license with insurable record.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with the public and co‑workers in written and verbal form.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers and the public.
- Good mathematical ability required to provide accurate information on meters.
- Knowledge of meter reading procedures.
- Accurate typing and data entry skills.
- Ability to undertake more than one task at a time.
- Knowledge of City streets.
- Ability to read, understand and navigate using maps.
- Ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance.
Formal applications, rating of education and experience; oral interview and reference check; job related tests may be required.

The employee may occasionally be required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
