Location:

Iowa City Community School District Northwest Middle School, Coralville, Iowa.

This position is a 1.0 FTE Night Custodian working Tuesday through Saturday. Shift times are Tuesday–Friday 4:00 p.m.–12:30 a.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. The Night Custodian will maintain a safe and clean environment, perform routine maintenance, and handle additional custodial duties as assigned.

• Maintain a safe, secure, and conducive learning environment.
• Adapt to daily service requirements and perform routine custodial duties.
• Order and maintain supplies.
• Ensure cleanliness meets District standards.
• Verify proper heating, ventilation, and cooling; report major problems.
• Help prevent loss of school property.
• Assist with building administrator requests (e.g., lunch arrangements, evening activities).
• Participate in training new employees.
• Cover for the Head Custodian when needed.
• Ensure snow removal meets safety standards.
• Complete minor repair jobs as time allows.
• Communicate clearly with colleagues verbally and in writing.
• Use computer skills for email and data entry in the electronic work order system.
• Operate equipment such as cleaning agents, vacuums, yard equipment, snow removal machines, furniture dollies, floor care machines, hand tools, and ladders.
• Perform exterior duties including snow removal, athletic complex upkeep, entryways, parking lots, trash removal, damage reporting, daily perimeter checks, and other assigned tasks.

• Demonstrated custodial experience or ability to be trained.
• Effective communication skills.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems operation and maintenance.
• Understanding of housekeeping practices and materials.
• Basic ability to repair minor equipment.
• Routine maintenance knowledge.
• Physical capability to bend, lift up to 70 lbs., climb, and stand continuously.
• Exposure to dust, dirt, chemicals, inclement weather, ultraviolet radiation, and blood‑borne pathogens is acceptable.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Department may consider suitable alternatives to these qualifications.

  Director of Facilities Management, Custodial Manager, and Building Administrator.

• Contract days: 261
• Full‑time position
• Hourly Salary: $22.04 per hour
• Saturday shifts may be required.
