Light Equipment Mechanic

Description Overview

The Light Equipment Mechanic is responsible for providing the highest quality of maintenance, repair, inspection, and servicing of vehicles and equipment that align with department requirements for the City of Corpus Christi.

• Perform main engine, engine ignition, fuel system, and engine emission control system repairs
• Repair fuel system configurations to include diesel, gas, and alternative fuel
• Diagnostics and repairs of automatic, standard, and electronic transmission mechanical and control systems, including diagnosis and repair of standard transmission clutch operating systems, transaxle and transfer case systems, and all phases of final driver operations
• Perform diagnosis and repairs of various types of suspension, steering, power assist, and alignment systems
• Repair various types of brake systems, including hydraulic systems, disc and drum brake applications, air brake systems, and anti-lock brake system operations
• Perform electrical and electronic system diagnosis and repair, which may include starting and charging systems, electrical wiring systems, gauges and warning systems, and accessory systems
• Repair ventilation systems, heat and air conditioning systems, refrigerant recovery, and mechanical system repair
• Maintain fleet vehicles and operations and ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies
• Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned, including occasional duties as Service Technician entering all work order information, greeting customers, and processing work orders
• Operate light and heavy equipment such as winch truck, dump trucks, and other related equipment and machinery
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

• Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday – Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services
