Job Summary

The City of Corsicana is currently accepting applications for the position of Laborer for the Parks & Recreation Department
, working at the Senior Activity Center and Pioneer Village locations
. This position performs a variety of labor and support duties related to the daily operations, programs, and maintenance of the Senior Activity Center and Pioneer Village. Assignments vary based on operational needs and may include indoor and outdoor work in support of city facilities and events such as general landscape tasks such as mowing grass, tree trimming, trash removal, janitorial duties, and small carpentry tasks as required.

Position works under the supervision and with shared oversight from the Senior Activity Director and the Pioneer Village Program Coordinator.

• General daily CLEANING of the Senior Activity Center restroom fixtures, floors and countertops, kitchen fixtures, and sweeping and cleaning patio
• General daily CLEANING of Pioneer Village interior buildings: trash pickup and vacuuming of floor, cleaning restroom fixtures, floors and countertops
• CLEANS, DUSTS, MOPS, WAXES AND BUFFS floors in Senior Activity Center and Pioneer Village
• VACUUMS carpets and SHAMPOOS carpets when necessary
• DUSTS and POLISHES furniture, woodwork and shelves; EMPTIES and CLEANS waste receptacles. WASHES windows and walls; CLEANS restrooms, REPLENISHES supplies
• Repairs and maintains outdoor furniture and fixtures. REPORTS services that are out of order
• Works alone to complete job tasks according to specific instructions but may occasionally work with a crew
• Perform all general landscape tasks such as mowing grass, weed eating, tree trimming, trash removal, planting of flowers, cleaning restrooms, and small carpentry tasks as required
• Works outside with various hand tools such as mowers, weed eaters, pruners, shovels or rakes
• May pick up, deliver and move furniture, equipment and supplies
• CLEANS, SHARPENS, GREASES and MAINTAINS tools, equipment and vehicles
• ASSISTS in the operation of department or city-wide special events and all tasks related to those events
• Provide PERFORMS a variety of tasks as assigned, as well as weekend work for routine maintenance
• Represent the Parks & Recreation Department with a positive public image

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• At least one year of stable work experience as an equipment operator, driver, or similar
• General knowledge of the operation, use, and safety of heavy equipment and machinery
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions with minimal supervision
• Ability to interact courteously with the public and coworkers
• Valid Texas Driver's License and satisfactory driving record required

• Knowledge of materials and maintenance techniques used in park and grounds upkeep
• Ability to operate and maintain hand tools and power equipment
• Basic understanding of irrigation systems, small repairs, and carpentry tasks
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

• Strong communication skills and a professional, courteous attitude with the public and coworkers
• Ability to work independently and proactively identify and report issues to supervisors
