Laborer – Senior Activity Center/Pioneer Village
This position performs a variety of labor and support duties related to the daily operations, programs, and maintenance of the Senior Activity Center and Pioneer Village. Assignments vary based on operational needs and may include indoor and outdoor work in support of city facilities and events such as general landscape tasks, mowing grass, tree trimming, trash removal, janitorial duties, and small carpentry tasks as required.
Position works under the supervision and with shared oversight from the Senior Activity Director and the Pioneer Village Program Coordinator.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- General daily cleaning of the Senior Activity Center and Pioneer Village
- Performs various tasks related to the maintenance and repair of Pioneer Village, the Senior Activity Center, and other city property, including mowing, weed eating, planting and tending to trees and plants; repairing irrigation systems; and picking up trash
- Maintains and repairs Pioneer Village and Senior Activity Center facilities and outdoor fixtures, performing small carpentry tasks as required
- Assists in the operation of department or city-wide special events and all tasks related to those events
- Maintains tools, equipment and vehicles, make minor repairs as needed and report major repairs needed
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner
- Performs other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED required
- One-year work experience as a laborer, equipment operator, grounds keeper or similar experience
- Ability to operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, tractors, hand tools and power equipment
- Basic understanding of irrigation systems, small repairs, and carpentry tasks
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong communication skills and a professional, courteous attitude with the public and coworkers
- Ability to work independently and proactively identify and report issues to supervisors
Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during special events. Must be physically agile and capable of moving safely and efficiently through parks and work sites. Must be able to lift and move heavy objects. Employee may be exposed to chemicals, plant irritants, and vehicle fumes and must be comfortable working at heights (from ladders or bucket trucks) and around water (lakes, pools, ponds).

- Have and maintain a valid Texas Motor Vehicle Driver’s License

- Must successfully complete a one-year probationary period
