Job Description

This recruitment will be used to fill eight Building Services Assistant part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) for the University Housing & Dining Services (UHDS) at Oregon State University (OSU). Join the UHDS Building Services team and gain hands‑on experience while helping maintain and support OSU’s residence halls and dining facilities. Student employees work alongside experienced maintenance staff and assist with a variety of projects, including general maintenance, furniture assembly, furniture movement, loft installations, room preparation, repairs, preventative maintenance, and other building‑related work.

This position is a good opportunity for students interested in developing practical skills, learning how building maintenance operations work, and gaining experience using tools and equipment in a team environment. No extensive maintenance experience is required; we are looking for dependable students who are willing to learn, work safely, and contribute to the team.

Position Duties
  • Assist with lofting and adjusting beds and other residence hall furniture.
  • Move, assemble, disassemble, and stage furniture, equipment, and materials throughout UHDS facilities.
  • Assist with the installation and replacement of dispensers, fixtures, and other building accessories.
  • Perform basic maintenance and minor repair tasks under the direction of maintenance staff.
  • Assist with residence hall room preparation, including furniture setup and other move‑in and move‑out related work.
  • Transport tools, supplies, furniture, and materials between work areas and buildings.
  • Support Building Maintenance staff with preventative maintenance, special projects, and other assigned facilities‑related tasks.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
  • High School student:
    Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program
  • Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

* International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full‑time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
