Custodian
Lewis Central Community School District is looking for full-time, full-year evening custodians. Positions are available at all buildings and placement will be determined through interview with the Buildings and Grounds Director.

Summary
- Maintains the District's school facilities in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
- Cleans and preserve designated spaces, equipment, etc., in assigned buildings so that health standards are met.
- Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and/or draperies using vacuum cleaners and/or shampooers.
- Sweep, scrub, wax, and/or polish floors, using brooms, mops, and/or powered scrubbers.
- Dust and polish furniture and equipment.
- Wash windows, walls, ceilings, and woodwork, waxing and polishing as necessary.
- Empty wastebaskets and transport other trash and waste to disposal areas.
- Move and arrange furniture as required.
- Set and take down lunch tables.
- Set up chairs, tables and other furniture for special events.
- Assists with building snow removal, minor landscaping and grounds maintenance as requested.
- Remove debris from driveways, garages, bus loading areas, and entrances to buildings.
- Raise and lower flag at beginning and end of day when applicable.
- Fill in for other shift custodial absence as required by Administration.
- Makes recommendations to improve service and ensure more efficient operation.
- Examines building and reports the needs for repairs of failed equipment.
- Request repair work as discovered and report needs immediately for maintenance.
- Keep equipment and work area clean and neat.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs as needed.
- Follows the chain of command as required.
- Restock disposable items and provide inventory usage and data.
- Requests supplies and equipment to complete required cleaning.
- Assist visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up equipment.
- Sort clothing and other articles, load washing machines, and fold dried items.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- Experience:
Previous experience preferred but not required (additional pay given for verified relatable experience).

Schedule:
Evening custodians are scheduled in our buildings weekdays (Monday through Friday) from 3:00pm to 11:30pm. In addition to their regularly scheduled shift, all custodians may be asked to work events (usually held during evening or weekend hours) for any building in the District outside of their normal working hours. Mandatory overtime is not required but overtime is available and will occasionally be asked of all custodians.
Rate of pay:
The current base rate for custodians is $15.00 per hour. Depending on previous work experience or any relatable education or certifications you may hold, this rate could increase by $1.00 to $2.00 more per hour. Final determination of applicants individual starting pay rate will be determined by the Business Office/HR.

As a full-time full-year position, applicants are eligible for our full benefit package, including paid single health and dental benefits with the option to purchase family benefits. A $30,000 life insurance policy at no cost to the employee and have the ability to enroll in a few supplemental insurance programs (vision, accident/critical illness). All staff are automatically enrolled from day one, in the state sponsored retirement program, IPERS.
The District contributes 9.44% of your wages to this. IPERS requires that you contribute 6.29% of your wages. Paid Leaves/Holidays:
The District offers both paid sick leave, paid personal leave, and paid vacation leave for this position. This position has 8 paid holidays; 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day following, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday and Memorial Day.
